Today the children will be bringing home a copy of the KM Alphabet Chart. Please find a place to hang this chart where your child can refer to it often when they are doing any sort of writing (for school or for fun).
This chart is helpful to Kindergarten kids in many ways. It is a good tool to use when trying to remember how to properly form each letter, upper case and lower case. It also contains pictures of the key words that the children are learning to help them remember the sounds that the letters make. It can be helpful when trying to sound out a word (when reading or when writing) to find the keyword with a similar sound. The five vowels are highlighted to remind the children that every word needs at least one vowel. Since long vowel sounds coincide with the letter name, the key words that are included for the vowels will help the children to remember the short vowel sounds.
We use this alphabet chart every day at school so I thought it would be nice for the children to have a copy that they could use at home as well. I hope you find it helpful.
The service project for February will be making Valentines for Veterans. The KM students will be working with their fifth grade buddies to make Valentines on Thursday.
This Friday, February 6 the School Store will be open for business. There is a $5 spending limit. Please remember, if you are going to send money in with your KM student for the school store, please send it in a zip top baggie labeled with your child’s name and “school store” and place it in your child’s VIP baggie. This will help our morning run smoothly and will ensure each child has their money at lunch time.
Wednesday, February 25 will be “Fancy Day” at the Sheehan School. Please choose a “fancy” outfit to wear to school that is appropriate for the weather.
If there happens to not be school tomorrow due to snow, Look Alike Day will be on Friday instead.

Tomorrow is Look-Alike Day at the Sheehan School. KM has decided to include everyone in our class by all dressing alike tomorrow rather than each person trying to find a partner. We decided that most people probably have blue jeans (or dark blue pants) and some sort of red top (or pink if you don’t have red) that they could wear (or borrow) so that is what we will wear to school tomorrow. Remember, tomorrow is also an Early Release Day!
Does anyone have pictures of any classroom events that took place this fall? Our Fall bulletin board which is usually full by now remains empty! I’d love any pictures you have from the Fox Hill field trip, Halloween, the Thanksgiving show, etc. You can send hard copies in your child’s VIP or email them to me and I can print them here at school. Come to think of it, if you can email them to me there may also be a few I can use in our classroom portfolio for our upcoming NAEYC Accreditation as well! Thanks in advance for any you can send.
Also, while we really appreciate the Box Tops that you send in to school, they sometimes get lost when they are sent in loose in a VIP. It would make life a bit easier for Mrs. Holbrook if you could collect them at home and when you have a bunch (say at least 20 or so) send them in a small zip top bag in your child’s VIP. Thanks a bunch!
