Greetings Visitors!
Welcome to my Kindergarten classroom web page! I’m Mrs. Amy Monteiro. The 2010-2011 school year is my 17th year working in early childhood education and 11th year teaching Kindergarten (10th in Westwood). I created this page to quickly and easily communicate back-and-forth with the families of the children in my class and I welcome anyone to post comments and questions to me (or to the other families) through this site. Please check back often to stay up to date with what’s going on in our classroom. You can subscribe through an rss feed reader (feed button is at the bottom left hand corner of this page) or below to receive posts via email. I’m looking forward to another fun year in KM!

Thanks to an “on top of things” mom, I was reminded that I wanted to remind all of you that tomorrow is Pajama Day at the Sheehan! I LOVE pajama day and so do the kids. Leave the slippers at home though, they are not allowed!

Also, Kindergarten kids sometimes have a hard time staying on task especially now that we are beginning to do more academic work at tables throughout our day. As a way of motivating them to stay on task, both during workshop times and during transitions, we have started a Gold Stars Chart. Throughout the day, I place gold stars on a chart in our classroom when I notice children are on task, for example, they are talking to their partner about the books they are reading during Readers’ Workshop rather than talking about the soccer game on Saturday. If a child earns 10 gold stars throughout the week, they will earn a reward. Gold Star Rewards will be determined soon but may include eating lunch with me in the classroom, a special note home recognizing their accomplishment, or a prize from a prize box (a box of pencils, erasers, silly putty, hopping frogs, etc….a sneaky way of getting them to build those fine motor skills!). Ask your child if they got any Gold Stars today.
