Please excuse any typos. I’m posting from my phone while my oil is being changed! Don’t forget to send costumes tomorrow! In fact, please send it in a plastic bag that can be zipped up or tied up. As you all know we have had a LOT of head lice going around K so we are going to do our best to keep everyone’s clothes away from everyone else’s clothes, especially hats. Mrs. Brown has even asked us to keep jackets in backpacks during the day so they are not touching each other in the closet. Please make sure your child has a bag big enough to hold their jacket.
The kids do not need a snack tomorrow because Fox Hill will be providing one. In the past they have given the kids juice boxes, munchkins, and smartfood popcorn. I assume it will be similar tomorrow. You are welcome to send something else if you so choose.
We will also NOT be having our pizza party tomorrow due to a scheduling conflict. Lunch will be as usual tomorrow upon on our return. The pizza party will be Tuesday, November 2. If your child doesn’t like pizza, they can bring something from home or buy from the cafeteria. They will also be served water and fruit with a yogurt dip. They can buy milk in the cafeteria as well.
It has been brought to my attention that I forgot to send home letter homework this week. Sorry. Since it is so late in the week, i’ll just wait until Monday!
Starting Monday, November 1 we will be making a slight change to the dismissal routine for walkers. Now that the kids have been in school for a few months and I am getting to know the family members who pick up, we no longer feel it is necessary for me to shake every one’s hand before they leave. So beginning next Monday, I will bring the children out our blue door (as I have been) but they may just go right to their parent (or grandparent or babysitter, etc.) when they see them rather than having to wait to shake my hand. They will be instructed to stay lined up on the wall with me if they do not see their parent and wait with me until someone arrives. No one will be permitted to just walk off or go play on the structure without a parent being present. If you have any question about this, please feel free to comment here or email me. Thanks!
I would like to make a poster with the kids of words we know how to read and I need your help. Could you help your child cut out 1 or 2words from products, flyers, or magazines that they can recognize. I’m imagining the kids bringing in things like the word “Cheerios” cut out from the front of the box or “Lego” cut from a toy sale flyer…or my personal favorite “Target” next to the famous bullseye logo (don’t send this one as I’m going to bring it in)! If you could send them in by Monday, that would be great.
Tomorrow is picture day. Please don’t forget to send in the envelopes for the photographer if you have not already done so. We also have PE and yoga tomorrow so please send the kids in sneakers. Shoes don’t show up in the kids’ pictures so don’t worry about matching shoes to their “picture day” shirt!
The student council will be raising money over the next few weeks for Turkeys-4-America. This charity was started many years ago by 2 Westwood children and has grown over the years to be a national organization. Proceeds go toward providing turkeys to families for Thanksgiving who can not afford to buy one for themselves. We will have a collection box in the classroom for the children to bring in any spare change that they would like to donate to this cause over the next few weeks.
We have 2 bits of exciting news. The first is about our upcoming field trip to Fox Hill Village. Ask you child to tell you who lives there, why we are going, and what we will do while we are there. There is also a permission slip coming home in VIP’s today that needs to be signed and returned to school in order for the kids to attend.
The other piece of exciting news is the result of the box top contest. Although I didn’t even realize there was a prize involved, it turns out that not only did we win by a landslide (1451 box tops sent in from our class alone!) but we have won a pizza party lunch for our efforts. The pizza party will (hopefully) take place on the day of our field trip. If your child does not like pizza, feel free to send in a lunch from home or they can use their lunch card to buy a lunch from the cafeteria. Water and a dessert will also be served.
