Archive for December, 2009
Dear KM Families,
Thank you so much for the generous gift cards you gave me for Christmas. Every year there are fun things like art supplies and games that I like to get for the classroom that don’t fall under the “Literacy” or “Math” budget. Your gift will go a long way towards buying some of those items…and maybe a few frappuccinos for me as well! I can’t believe we are already approaching the December break. This year has gone by so fast so far and will pick up even more speed once the New Year begins. I hope all of your families enjoy a relaxing, safe, and fun holiday. See you in January!
Thanks for sending in all those Box Tops! We won the Cookie and Cocoa Party and will be indulging this afternoon.
Tomorrow is the last day to bring in Box Tops in order to win a cookie and cocoa party for our class! We’re doing pretty good but we can never be sure where we stand compared to the other classes…so let’s bring this one home for Mrs. Holbrook! Search your kitchens and send them in!
Also, Wednesday is Mixed Up Holiday Day so come dressed in a variety of Holiday clothes.
Now that the weather has brought us snow the children need to be prepared to play outdoors. The rule at the Sheehan School is you must have on mittens/gloves, snow boots and snow pants to be able to play out in the snow. If a child does not have these items on, they can only play in areas where there is no snow. This often means the hard top area is the only place they are allowed and this can make them feel very sad as their friends are out playing without them.
Please make sure your child is dressed in a dry set of clothes under their snow pants. It gets very warm in our classroom so children will be very uncomfortable sitting in wet hot snow pants all day if they are not dressed under them.
Please make sure they have shoes to change into. When their snow boots are wet they track snow and mud through areas in which other children need to sit. It also makes it dangerous when the floor is wet, children slip and fall.
When the ground is covered with ice we often keep the children in due to safety concerns however we will go out all other times unless the temperature is below 15 degrees. Thank you for helping us to keep your children dry, warm, and safe during this snowy time of year.
One more thing, we go out twice a day…PLEASE help your child to learn how to zip their jacket on their own! We lose time on learning zipping 50 jackets every day!
A few months ago I posted a cool math website with games for the kids. A parent emailed me and asked if I had any suggestions for literacy websites as well. Ms. Mutter, one of the first grade teachers gave me the following list. I have not checked out all of the games myself (I have checked out a few though) but I trust her opinion of good sites for kids! If you check any out with your kids, please post a comment to let everyone know which ones were worth a visit and which ones might be too easy or too challenging. The ones you think are good, I’ll add to the useful links at the right. Thanks in advance for the feedback and I hope you enjoy the sites!
